Baelskaaï (Oostende)
Baelskaaï (Oostende)

A true maritime gateway to the flat country, Ostend is not only a seaside town very popular with Belgians, but also a fishing town where maritime history and language are omnipresent. Baelskaaï is a place of urban reconquest. Although still used by certain trawlers, its dimensions and those of the new built front could inspire an extraordinary mast silhouette, composing a strong and striking overall visual image. This mast is a nod to the masts of old rigging: steel shaft and 19m wooden mast, guyed aluminum arms integrating the light sources for a total span of 14m, all slightly inclined under the effect of pitching or to fight against the powerful winds coming from the North Sea... Like a Pandora's box, the work of variation following the same materials but with tailor-made shapes and to the scale of each space, streets or avenues inside this new district of Oosteroever, is instilled little by little to ultimately compose a real family of dedicated masts.
